What Is This?

So what is this and where did it come from?

Recently a dog presented to Pet Care for vomiting with a history of eating things she probably shouldn’t. Radiographs showed some indestinct material in the stomach and the dog was hospitalized for treatment and observation. Despite vomiting several pairs of socks over the next few hours, radiographs still continued to show material in the stomach and the decision was made to take the dog to surgery. Upon exploring the abdomen Drs. Hulls and Poutous found the stomach to distended.

After ensuring that there were no problems elsewhere, an incision was made in the stomach revealing what appeared to be fabric.

Here is some of the fabric discovered in the stomach.

When this piece of fabric was removed…

another piece was discovered!

And another!!

All together four pieces of what appears to be a tank top were removed.

This dog recovered well from surgery and is now back home. Hopefully she’ll stay away from the laundry basket!
