“Lila” is a young female Muscovy duck that was brought to us by good samaritans who had found her limping around their neighborhood. Radiographs revealed that she had a fracture of her tibiotarsus (lower leg bone in birds). She was fitted with a padded splint and a customized walking bar was crafted out of an aluminum rod. This bar provided support to her leg while still allowing her to walk during her recovery. After several days in the hospital, “Lila’s” daily nursing care was taken over by licensed wildlife rehabilitator, Connie Moore. Thanks to her help, some cage rest and regular bandage changes, “Lila’s” leg healed over the next two months. She is now free of all the bandages and splints and is back to walking and swimming normally!
