Dr. Herbert A. Hulls earned his veterinary degree in 1990 from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, where he also attended undergraduate school. Although born in Montana, Dr. Hulls considers himself a native Buckeye, having grown up in Ohio, where his sister and parents still reside. Childhood was full of country living and lots of animals. Interaction with cattle, horses, sheep, goats, rabbits, dogs, cats, raccoons, orphan fawns, and much more was the norm. An innate interest in science, medicine, and animals all drew him into the veterinarian profession. Upon graduation from vet school, he worked in rural western Ohio, making lots of farm calls along with treating companion animals in the clinic where he worked.
Ready for a change, Dr. Hulls, along with his wife, Erin, and their two dogs, moved to Virginia Beach in 1991, where he accepted a position at Pet Care Veterinary Hospital. Practicing veterinary medicine at Pet Care felt natural and energizing. The attitude of providing high quality medical and surgical care to patients with sincere compassion is at the heart of our hospital’s motives. The medicine and surgery of “exotics,” which are more popular than ever, have been at the forefront during the past 10 years of Dr. Hulls’ practice. These formerly unconventional pets, which include birds, ferrets, rabbits, reptiles, and amphibians, are a large source of special interest to him. A wide variety of orthopedic repairs and soft tissue surgeries have long provided him with many rewards. However, special interests in exotics and surgery only help round out the basic joys of treating the conventional canine and feline patients from puppy- and kittenhood through to their senior years.
Dr. Hulls’ interests outside veterinary medicine include family life with his two daughters, Phoebe and Chloe; his dog, Junebug; and one Uromastyx lizard, Spots. Hiking, backpacking, travel, bird watching, reading, and exercising are all hobbies he enjoys.
Thank you to everyone. I already thought Dr. Bean was an amazing vet when he sat on the floor with my kitties to do their exams, now I realize he cares about his patients on ALL levels, as well as their parents. I highly recommend this office.
They all were amazingly compassionate people, and truly were hurt from hearing the news. They also care for our Lesser Sulfur Crested Cockatoo that we still have and will for many years to come. They have helped with everything from checking her health after over 14 years of being at a vet clinic to getting her foods shifted over to a much more healthy diet.
Dr Hulls was very good with our 5 yr old Macaw. Explained to us very well everything he was doing or had to do. Will be bringing our Carl back when he's due...Thank You
My pet ate part of a rug and although I thought she had passed it, there was still someone her intestines. She had surgery and then we had some issues that made me nervous. The staff was wonderful when I was so stressed out and helpful when I came in (daily) with new issues.
Pet Care Veterinary Hospital has provided the BEST care for my dog. Since moving to Virginia Beach, 7 years ago, I went to 2 other veterinarian services before luckily finding Dr. Partlow and Dr. Hulls, who I credit for saving my dog's life and keeping him in perfect health. The care that the staff takes is just as if their animal patients are their very own pets. I couldn't love and trust Pet Care Veterinary Hospital more, and I highly recommend them!
