Anita Russell, Licensed Veterinary Technician

Anita Faye Russell was raised in a small town, Coushatta, Louisiana. Animals have been her passion since she was about nine years old. Wanting to be a veterinarian, Anita spent four and a half years at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Animal Science with a concentration in Veterinary Medicine.

While at Southern she worked in the Agricultural Facility with members of the Department of Agriculture. She was also a member of the mascot’s care team for a time. Anita was sent to New York to represent both her class and the Animal Science Department and also had the opportunity to work in the Louisiana Summer Habitat program. In 2002 Anita moved to Washington where she spent time assisting fire crews with “mop up” work after forest fires, although her main job was as a member of the Lyxn Endangerment Crew.

Anita has worked at several emergency animal hospitals and clinics during her time. She eventually moved to Natchitoches, Louisiana where she worked at Many veterinarian hospital while attending Northwestern State University. While at Northwestern she received her certification as a Licensed Veterinarian Technician. After two and a half years of working and going to school Anita became certified as a LVT in both Louisiana and Virginia.

Anita moved to Virginia Beach in January of 2009. She currently has two companions, an orange tabby cat named Kosmo and a LA Catahoula Lepard bulldog named Bayou.
